PROJECTS & AWARDS:

EAST BLUFF

In February 2013, a consortium of Peoria organizations submitted an application requesting funds from the Illinois Attorney General to be used for housing counseling and community revitalization. Funds were available from a $25 billion national foreclosure settlement award that that Illinois Attorney General's Office participated in.

The Peoria Consortium - Partners for a Better East Bluff - received $3 million.

Peoria Opportunities Foundation received $1 million to rehab and/or build 14 houses in the East Bluff neighborhood over the next three years. When the houses are completed, they will be sold to income-qualified families who have completed a housing counseling course with METEC or Novadebt.

AWARDS

Corporation for Supportive Housing
Physical Environment Award 2011
(Statement provided by Richard Jackson, CSH)

"In April 2008, New Hope Apartments opened in what used to be a YWCA building downtown Peoria. The preservation project was a historic rehab creating 79 efficiency units targeted to single adults that have a disability. New Hope Apartments became a reality through the work of 2 strong and committed Peoria based non-profits - Peoria Opportunities Foundation and South Side Office of Concern.

Not only is the building physically lovely with outside terrace, retention of historic features like moldings and woodwork, adequate "home" like supportive service space; the project took a lot of tenacity to overcome NIMBY and community opposition. The building is now an asset to surrounding neighborhood, a downtown business and industrial district.

That is why we are celebrating the work of two great partners who are demonstrating that Permanent Supportive Housing works! Welcome Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) in congratulating awardees for Overall Quality in Physical Environment - Peoria Opportunities Foundations and South Side Office of Concern."
